Hector Aristizabal returns to the DC Peace Mural for an evening open to the public but particularly designed for theatre students.
Theatre of the Oppressed (T.O.) is a form of popular community based education developed by the Brazilian visionary, Augusto Boal, that uses theater as a tool for transformation. In T.O., the audience is not made of spectators but “spect-actors”. Through the evocative language of theatre, everyone is invited to share their opinion on the issues at hand.
A native of Colombia forced to leave his country because of death threats, Aristizabal is an actor and human rights activist who runs ImaginAction, a Theater of the Oppressed- based theater company. He travels throughout the world doing performances and workshops using Theater of the Oppressed techniques designed to engage in difficult dialogue and promote human rights.
Admission: Donation to support the Washington DC Peace Mural Exhibition. See related events on January 11 and 12.

A beautiful example of how the human spirit heals itself. The mural brought out the best in me, filling my senses with possibilities of self-expression and hope for the future.
