Event Description

Witness Against Torture announces a 100-Day Campaign (1/11/09-4/30/09) to close Guantánamo and end torture by the US. Kicking off with a nine day fast, the campaign will consist of a daily, sustained, physical presence opposite the White House and a weekly schedule of Executive and Congressional education, public teach-ins, film screenings, prayer and vigiling throughout the first 100 days of the new administration.

This evening's event will overview the campaign and feature speakers from the
Center for Constitutional Rights addressing the matter of legal representation of Guantanamo detainees. Participants will learn about the moral and practical consequences of torture and the call to shutdown Guantanamo and other prisons working outside the Geneva Conventions.
