Event Description

Join us for this stimulating PANEL DISCUSSION at the DC Peace Mural organized by the Institute for Policy Studies.

The Panel will be facilitated by Foreign Policy in Focus (FPIF) Co-Director Emira Woods. The panelists will include Kyi May Kaung, Annabel Park, Channapha Khamvongsa, and Anna Huong, (creator of the Peace Mural).

We will explore the unique ability of art to bring collective experiences of suffering into the public discourse. The panelists are artists and social activists from Korea, Laos, Burma, and Vietnam. Their own experiences and work have touched deeply on the issues of how, through art, traumatic individual memories can be woven into a larger context of community grief, reconciliation, and healing.

Foreign Policy In Focus (FPIF) is a think tank for research, analysis, and action that brings together 600 scholars, advocates, and activists who strive to make the United States a more responsible global partner. The Institute for Policy Studies is a multi-issue research center that has transformed ideas into action for
peace, justice, and the environment for over four decades.

Note: Foreign Policy In Focus, a project of the Institute for Policy Studies, recently featured a story about Huong, War and Peace: An Epic Mural, written by one of the panelists, Kyi May Kaung.
