This reception provides an opportunity for Community Science (formerly the Association for the Study and Development of Community) to introduce its name change and to discuss how its work contributes to building the capacity of organizations and institutions to develop healthy, just and equitable communities.
The new name better reflects the organization's greater focus on its mission: To advance the science and practice of community change. Although our name is changing our core values remain. Our work, regardless of which social issue we focus on, is designed, conducted, and evaluated with three values in mind: (1) Community is important; (2) Building the capacity of the community to assess and solve its problems is important; and (3) Change is necessary in our ongoing struggle for equity and justice.
Community Science is a research and development company helping government, foundations and non-profits use science to create and implement innovative solutions to social problems. Community Science represents a network of leading community development practitioners and scientists in the United States and Europe, with offices in Maryland, Italy and Portugal. We combine the principled, rigorous use of scientific methods with practical tools to foster learning and improved capacity for social change.

How simple it has been for us to easily be wrapped up in the small and insignificant things and forget how many people suffer and how easy it would be for us to suffer. Anonymous
