Based on his book, JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died & Why
It Matters, James Douglass will describe the steps that
transformed President John F. Kennedy from a Cold Warrior to a
leader determined with his adversary, Nikita Khrushchev, to pull
the world back from nuclear holocaust. As the monk Thomas
Merton anticipated, Kennedy was then marked out for
assassination, the foreseeable consequence of his turn to peace.
As we approach the inauguration of President Barack Obama, will
we recognize and resist the unspeakable forces that threaten the
life of any president who has the courage to negotiate peace with our enemies?
A labor of some 12 years, Douglas' research reveals the painful, hopeful story of John F. Kennedy's efforts to save us from nuclear war, his decision to pull out troops from Vietnam, and his call for nuclear disarmament.
James W. Douglass is a longtime peace activist and writer. He and his wife Shelley are co-founders of the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action in Poulsbo, Washington, and Mary’s House, a Catholic Worker house of hospitality in Birmingham, Alabama. His books include The Nonviolent Cross, The Nonviolent Coming of God, Resistance and Contemplation, and Lightning East to West.
The book will be available for purchase on site at the Peace Mural Exhibition; Jim will give a lecture followed by booksigning.

How simple it has been for us to easily be wrapped up in the small and insignificant things and forget how many people suffer and how easy it would be for us to suffer. Anonymous
